Life is messy...

Seriously, life is just super messy. Fun, but messy. If you ever happen to see my social media posts, you could possibly think that I might know what I'm doing and could, maybe, just maybe, have my life together... because that's what you see posted. You see the "Look-we-just-bought-a-new-house" post, but the "It-took-us-almost-a-year-to-move-out-and-sell-the-old-one-and-by-the-way-we-are-not-close-to-being-finished-unpacking" post just never seems to make it onto the timeline (#truestory btw). That's why I have a love-hate relationship with social media. I LOVE posting my highlight reel, but I'm not so excited to see yours. Wow! That sounds just awful. Don't misunderstand, I'm happy when good things happen to other people, and, yes, I do want to know about it. I want to congratulate you on a job well done or a break well deserved. What happens in my mind, though, is that I think, 'Wow, they really have it all together. They are adulting like a professional adult all over the place, and I haven't washed my hair in three days. I have got to get my crap together.' I forget that what I'm seeing is someone else's highlight reel, their sparkly moments. Because who wants to post their dirty laundry for all to see?
Sooooo... I said all that to say this - I have enjoyed taking a look back at my old blog posts on here. Reading about my sweet baby boy (who is now 7 and I still can't believe it!), our life, my hopes/worries/plans made me smile and think. I miss those baby days, those crazy long days at home that turned into five years all too quickly. My ideas on parenting and our family life have changed some (mostly due to a crazy busy schedule), but the core values have remained the same. We have changed. Both of us have real 'grown-up' jobs. JA is in school and plays sports with other littles. We bought a house in a nice neighborhood (conveniently located by my parents). This 'adulting' thing is happening even though we don't know what we are doing most of the time. However, we are getting really good at the "fake it until you make it" thing...
Here I am, five years later, five years older (not so sure if I'm five years wiser) just trying to keep my head above water. A big difference between now and then, is that I have way less time to accomplish what remains of  my '40 before 40' list of goals. (That's probably okay since I'm not quite sure where that list is or what all was on it...) But for now, I'm going to work on my five year goals (when I can remember them), try to figure out how to update this profile on Blogger (Yikes!), and go bandage my 7 year old who literally just injured himself trying to jump over a wooden pirate ship 😒It literally never ends around here. Welcome back to my crazy, messy life, y'all!
